#AlwaysThere: Jalen & Joseph

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

$39,014 of $200,000 raised.

Schools exist in communities. And, sometimes, those communities face crises. That was true when there was a shooting near H.D. Woodson High School.

All after-school activities were canceled.

But, Jalen and Joseph knew that HD’s decision wouldn’t necessarily impact Burrville, the nearby elementary school where they tutor. So, like they do every day, Jalen and Joseph found their way to Burrville. Their students were waiting.

But, so were every other tutor's students.

That day, these two young men worked with an entire classroom full of kids and delivered the day’s lesson, helping almost twenty elementary schoolers. That’s not what they’re trained to do. But, on that day, that’s what they did. They’re #AlwaysThere for the kids at Burrville.

We’re so thankful that teens across this city show up for their kids, even when life tries to get in the way. Thank you, Jalen and Joseph.

All this month, we will be sharing stories about members of the Reach community that are #AlwaysThere for the organization and those we serve. Jalen (11th Grade) and Joseph (10th Grade) are both students at H.D. Woodson Senior High School.

If inspired, make a gift here to support our 2020 #AlwaysThere campaign.
